2nd Attenborough / 2nd Beeston Archery Today Groningen and half of Arnhem patrol, (directly descended from Robin Hood), gathered in the archery field. After picking the Scouts to use as mobile targets, we collected some arrows and were ready to go, however at this point the camp staff said that straw targets would be more appropriate. Our first volley resulted in Daniel making a hole through the trailer, a shattered arrow from Phil hitting a wheel arch, several arrows lost in the grass, and the remaining few losing their tips in the wooden benches supporting the straw targets. Once everyone had had a few goes, and the arrow supply was running short, it was time to scavenge for the missing arrows. These were found in: the grass; the bushes; the trailer; inside a locked metal shed, (with a mysterious hole); and finally under the canoes, thankfully no holes through them.
Rafting / Pole jumping The Nijmegen and the other half of Arnhem patrol set off in the morning to do some rafting. Some of the rafts they made succeeded and some failed. Those Scouts on the rafts that failed got a quick swim in the canal, while those that succeeded were far too dry for our liking. So it was decided that some pole vaulting over some “slightly” muddy ditches should be a suitable challenge for them. A few people were not keen, but in the end everyone was persuaded to do it and got very very muddy – leaders included! Due to the smell we sent them off to the showers for a much needed wash, some had to be sent back for a second time! |
